Manheims auctions

Postby dylan » Fri Aug 19, 2011 11:15 pm

After being re-inspired recently, I've blown the dust off my piranha project - bought myself a brand new CIG transmig and went looking for an engine / donor bike.

Found myself checking out the damaged bike auctions at Manheims. I haven't looked into this before but was amazed at the prices some of these bikes went for. Anyone looking for an engine, it's definitely worth checking out Manheims for a write-off (no affiliation of course)

As it happened, I ended up buying a bike for myself not the piranha - $1250 for a 2008 Honda CB600F with buggar all K's on it (not everyone's cup of tea but I love the naked bikes). Priced up the new parts at just over $2k and with a beer allowance while I'm putting it all back together, it'll be on the road for around $4k.

Now I just have to explain to the Mrs that I need to buy another bike for the buggy....

Great advice, you can also get wrecks from Pickles auctions. I bought my wrecked bike for $1050 and sold $650 worth of parts I didn't need for my project. 2007 model GS-500f with 9,500 km's on it. Still have a few parts left but CBF selling them at the moment.

Definitely the only way to go when buying an engine for a buggy.

Manheims is great for a bargin...I got this for my build for $400.00 plus admin fee. 9500kms on the clock 2007 model. Replaced the started motor & it sounds awesome with the Screamin Demon exhaust. They even helped with a forklift loading the bike onto my trailer. I'd recommend them for sure.

Just need to finish the buggy now.

I was pretty surprised at the damage on some bikes - in some cases it was so minimal, it was ridiculous!

I also didn't really understand why some were stats and some were repairable. A few of the stats had very little damage on them while some of the repairables were busted beyond recognition. Anyway, I'm very happy with my purchase and will be back for the buggy donor bike shortly.

Hopefully this'll work, thought I'd try posting a picture.....

When you start pricing parts for damaged bikes you will understand why they are write offs. Also I purchased a damaged bike that looked repairable but after pulling it apart I discovered that the frame had cracks around the engine mounts and was twisted....makes a great buggy motor though...
